Statement of the Spokesperson on the violence in Venezuela

Yesterday, the National Assembly in Venezuela bore witness to acts of violence which have caused several injuries, including among Members of Parliament.

We expect the authorities to ensure the security of democratically elected representatives of the people and the integrity of the democratic institutions.

A peaceful solution to the crisis will only come from dialogue and political will. It is urgently needed for the sake of Venezuelan people who deserve to live in security and peace.
