Statement of the HR/VP Federica Mogherini on the accession of El Salvador to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court

The accession by El Salvador to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court confirms the commitment of El Salvador to the Rule of Law and to ending impunity for the most serious crimes.

El Salvador has become the 124th State Party of the Rome Statute and has joined the ever-growing number of countries supporting the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The EU is a staunch supporter of the Rome Statute and the ICC as the only permanent international criminal court with global aspiration. The EU uses this opportunity to call upon all states which have not yet done so to accede to the Rome Statute.
