Each EU mission works in the framework of a comprehensive approach. The mission works in agreement and coordination with the EU Delegations in the same area and in the framework of EU regional policies.
This week, the EU has completed the biggest photovoltaic solar field in Gaza. It will provide 0.5 Megawatts of electricity per day to fuel the Southern Gaza Desalination Plant.
The European Union, the United Kingdom and France provided around € 5.5 million for the implementation of nineteen social infrastructure projects in Area C of the West Bank. The contribution is part of the European Union Area C Development Programme in the West Bank that amounts to €9.5 million.
In the first half of 2018 (January-June) advancement of housing units continued at a higher level than in the previous reporting period (July-December 2017). More than 6,000 housing units in the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem were advanced in different stages of the planning and implementation process. This development will, over several years, enable potentially more than 27,000 Israeli settlers to move to the Occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The European Development Partners and the Palestinian Authority marked yesterday the launch of the European Joint Strategy in support of Palestine ''2017-2020 – Towards a democratic and accountable Palestinian State''. The launching event was attended by the Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, the EU Representative Ralph Tarraf, European Heads of Mission, and representatives of Palestinian ministries and civil society organizations.
The EU and the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development concluded yesterday a series of Iftar events organised during Ramadan for vulnerable families. The final Iftar was hosted by the SOS Children's Village in Bethlehem and brought together children, local officials, and social workers.
