Overview

The EU-Canada Summit Meetings are held regularly, alternately in Canada and in Europe, between the Prime Minister of Canada on one side and, on the other, the President of the Council of the European Union and the President of the European Commission.

EU-Canada Summits have been held since the Transatlantic Declaration was issued in 1990. The Transatlantic Declaration was signed in Rome by Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti on November 22, 1990. The Declaration initiated and formalized regular political meetings at the highest level between the two sides.
