The High Representative addressed the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defence Committee of the Italian Parliament. She explained the EU efforts to find solutions to the refugee crisis ."The crisis might endanger EU relations with its partners and our global role," she said: "It's not a European crisis but a global crisis". She also informed the Parliament about ongoing diplomatic work on Syria, Libya and the Middle East Peace Process.

While discussing Syria, the High Representative stressed the importance of the upcoming talks in Vienna on Friday. She hopes that these negotiations can start a new process leading towards a political transition in the country.

The visit concluded with a keynote speech at the Italian institute of International Affairs (IAI).

This is the 16th official visit to an EU member since the beginning of the mandate, when the High Representative pledged to reinforce cooperation between the EU institutions and the member states by building closer relations with Governments and National Parliaments.
