The European Union deployed an Election Expert Mission (EU EEM) to analyse and report on the electoral situation of the ivorian presidential elections and to express the EU interest in the country processes.

Originally scheduled to be held in 2005, the ivorian election has been delayed numerours time due to issues arising from the ivorian civil war and difficulties involved in the organisation and prepartion of the election. While EU EEM analyse all frameworks and phases of the electoral cycle, having regards to the relevant recognised international standard, they are of a technical nature. They do not conduct direct observation.

They are not headed by political figure and do not deliver public statements or press releases. They provide a technical document that reports on the country specific electoral situation to EU institutions and Member States.
