Experts from the Crisis Management and Planning Directorate (CMPD), Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC) and the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) trained future staff members of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and operations.

The pre-deployment training provided under the umbrella of the ESDC contributes to a more time-efficient and effective implementation of the mission mandate in theatre. They provide future mission members with the relevant knowledge and understanding to enable them to become operational more rapidly after their deployment in the field. Course participants stress the relevance of this training as an essential contribution to their mission preparedness and as a perfect 'tuning in' exercise.

Working in a team: participants of the PDT in Brussels

The 15th and 16th pre-deployment training (PDT) courses took place from 31 January to 3 February and from 28 February to 3 March in Brussels and brought together 25 participants from twelve countries: Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands. Civilian experts, police officers and military personnel all received the same training, which contributes to a common European security culture. The heterogeneous composition of the training audience perfectly reflected mission reality on the ground. The participants used this opportunity for an enriching exchange of experiences and perceptions; moreover, it allowed for very lively and interactive discussions and exercises.
