Tomorrow, 8 February, High Representative/ Vice-President Federica Mogherini will attend the graduation ceremony of the trainees from the Libyan Coast Guard and Navy, who finished the first training package, on board of the Italian ship San Giorgio in the harbour of Valletta, Malta.

EUNAVFOR Med Operation Sophia is providing training to the Libyan Coast Guard and Navy, to strengthen their capacities to save lives, to protect people and to make Libyan territorial waters more secure. The first package provided training to 89 trainees and their tutors. The training comprised various components from basic seamanship to more advanced specialist skills, including a substantial focus on human rights and international law.

Alongside the HRVP the ceremony will be attended by Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti and the Operation Commander Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino. Live coverage will be available on EBS. For more information on the Operation please see here.
