Statements by the Spokesperson

The two attacks on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) this week in the north-west and east of the country, which claimed the lives of three blue helmets and caused injuries, are a reminder of the fragility of the peace in the Central African Republic (CAR) in this decisive period of the country's reconstruction.

The European Union expresses its sincere condolences to the governments of Morocco and Bangladesh, the families of the victims and MINUSCA, and extends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. The perpetrators of these attacks must be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible. The EU reiterates its full support for the efforts of MINUSCA in helping the Central African authorities to protect the civil population and consolidate peace in the CAR.

A few weeks after the Brussels Conference for the Central African Republic, the CAR Government, supported by its international partners, urgently needs to implement a national plan for rebuilding and consolidating peace, in particular by reinforcing the capacities of the national security forces, by the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of armed groups, and by combating impunity.
