That was the question Sara Warner, a Year 11 student at Canberra Girls Grammar School asked our intern Karlijn Groen by email not so long ago and today she came to see us and get an answer.

This morning Miss Warner sat down with our Ambassador H.E. Sem Fabrizi and putting her journalism skills to the test was given the time to ask what the European Union's role in ensuring peace was.

"Peace is not something to be taken for granted," Ambassador Fabrizi said responding in that the European Union and it's European external Action Service works on peace every day in all relations; the purpose of the Union began to bring peace to a post war Europe in the early 1950s.

Through areas of work like free trade, climate negotiations, development where for example the the EU is the first donor globally, the EU strives to maintain a level of prosperity where it can and with its partners worldwide in order to ensure peace.
