Each EU mission works in the framework of a comprehensive approach. The mission works in agreement and coordination with the EU Delegations in the same area and in the framework of EU regional policies.
The EU and ASEAN held a launch event today (17/4) to celebrate the recent start of EU-ASEAN initiatives on policy dialogue and regional economic integration. The Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI) and the Enhanced ASEAN Regional Integration Support from the EU (ARISE Plus) are two flagship programmes of EU development cooperation in ASEAN with an overall budget of EUR 61 million.
EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia is but one element of a broader EU comprehensive response to the migration issue, which seeks to address not only its physical component, but also its root causes as well including conflict, poverty, climate change and persecution.
The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dato Lim Jock Hoi, has officially notified the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) of its accreditation as an entity associated with ASEAN. The EU-ABC is now listed as an accredited business organisation under Annex 2 of the ASEAN Charter.

To celebrate 40 years of EU-ASEAN partnership, the EU and ASEAN organised two flagship events in February 2018 in Brussels to reflect on what the partnership has achieved so far and to look ahead and discuss the prospects for closer cooperation in the years to come.
For the last four decades, the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have built up a strong partnership to ensure regional stability, prosperity and security; and create new opportunities for cooperation on regional and global challenges.
Last February, representatives from the two regions gathered in Brussels to discuss concrete ways to enhance their cooperation and tackling political and security issues, promoting economy, trade and business exchanges and enhancing people-to-people contacts.
