Burkina Faso: Statement by the High Representative Josep Borrell on the latest developments
In the light of ongoing events in Burkina Faso, in particular news of threats against the President, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, emanating from certain members of the armed forces, the European Union reiterates its attachment to respect for republican institutions and constitutional order.
The EU also calls on the security and defence forces to remain committed to their core duties of protecting the population and defending the country’s territory, and to make their demands known by non-violent means.
At this time of uncertainty, the European Union continues to follow developments closely and urges calm and restraint on all those involved. It also calls for the freedom of President Kaboré and the members of State institutions to be restored immediately.
