16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of violence, particularly on women and young girls. The campaign starts on the 25th November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concludes on the 10th December, Human Rights Day. In particular, this campaign emphasises that violence against women, in any form, is a violation of human rights. That all women, girls, men and boys in all their diversity – should take a stand against. Here the Member States of the EU stand united and UNFPA and partners stand committed to end gender-based violence.

During this year’s 16 Days of Activism the Embassies of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the EU Delegation with national stakeholders and UNFPA will organise several public events in Dar es Salaam and its region from 25th November to 10th December, 2021. Our key message for this year is Ewe mwananchi. Komesha ukatili wa kijinsia sasa.- End Gender Based Violence Now.

The celebration will culminate with a Joint GBV Champion Award Ceremony and a fundraising concert organized by Team Europe, the MKUKI Coalition, WiLDAF together with UNFPA. The ceremony will recognize and honour the hard and selfless work, innovation, creativity, and efforts of extraordinary individuals, organizations and communities, who have taken actions to prevent and respond to GBV. This event will take place on Wednesday 8th December 2021, starting 19:00 PM at Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam with performances from national celebrity names such as Ben Pol, Nandy, Siti and the Band, Bedja Music and Shikandoto – All Stars.
