Just like the last few years, this year also the Europe Day coincides with Ramadan. We celebrate in this spirit of togetherness, tolerance and solidarity on the occasion of Ramadan and EU Day together.
This spirit of solidarity and hope is especially poignant this year because of the pandemic.
Since the beginning of Ramadan, network of EU Information Centres, have been delivering food packages in 19 cities, reaching out to more than 50.000 families across the country.
Among the recipients of this assistance, aiming to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, are Turkish families affected by the pandemic as well as refugee families.
The Head of Delegation, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, said on the occasion:
“Ramadan is a key month for the Islamic world in which everyone should go the extra mile to help those most in need.
Echoing this, the EU Delegation is happy to reach out to vulnerable families whose conditions have further deteriorated during the pandemic.
Thanks to the countrywide network of EU Information Centres, the delivery of our food packages will continue until the end of Ramadan.
With these gift packages, we aim to jointly celebrate Ramadan as well as the upcoming Europe Day which is celebrated on 9 May.
I take the opportunity to thank our local partners in the region for their cooperation and offer my best wishes for this holy month.”
