I would like to express my deep sadness over the passing away of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. My most sincere and deepest condolences go out to H.H. family, to the Government of the State of Kuwait, and to the people of Kuwait.

The European Union has the utmost respect for His Highness and his leadership. His vision earned Kuwait the respectable role of a regional and international mediator, and bestowed upon him the title of a ‘global humanitarian leader’. We have all benefited greatly from his experience and perseverance when it came to promoting dialogue and peace, and must now strive to preserve his legacy as we confront common challenges, both within the Gulf region, the broader Middle East and the global stage.

The European Union and the State of Kuwait enjoy excellent relations, founded on our shared determination to advance the cause of peace and prosperity in the Middle East region and beyond. The European Union stays firmly committed to strengthen our bilateral ties as we strive to attain our shared interests for the benefit of our peoples.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad al-Sabah, may he rest in peace, leaves behind an invaluable legacy in world affairs. I am confident that the State of Kuwait will remain a regional and international leader for peace and a global actor for humanitarian relief.

In this moment of sorrow, I would like to reassure that the European Union will continue to work towards consolidating a strong, enduring partnership with the State of Kuwait and its people.
