On 20 November in Islamabad, the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) organised a National Consultation on compliance and coordination of the GSP+ Scheme ongoing since January 2014. The objectives were:
Prime Minister's Advisor on Commerce, Industries and Investment Mr. Abdul Razaq Dawood, the Parliamentary Secretary Human Rights Mr. Lal Chand Malhi (MNA) and the EU Ambassador to Pakistan H. E. Mrs Androulla Kaminara as well as the Country Director ILO Ms. Ingrid Christensen addressed the gathering comprising stakeholders from the government, the industry and the trade Unions.
Executive Director PILER Mr. Karamat Ali welcomed the participants and stated that inputs from the consultation will help guide government actions towards better compliance on human and labour rights and also guide the EU to have realistic expectations given the challenges on the ground. Commerce Minister thanked the EU for granting the GSP+ which has immensely helped export sector to grow despite economic difficulties.
