EU hosts conference on media ethics and responsibilty

In light of World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May, the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics, with support from the EU hosted a conference entitled The European Media Standards: Ethics and Responsibility in Tbilisi.

Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia and Ms Nata Dzvelishvili, Executive Director of the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics made the opening remarks. 

"Self-regulation is an issue we need to discuss here today.  Professional, responsible and ethical journalism is key for a healthy democratic society" noted Ambassador Hartzell. 

Representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Georgian and European media experts, executive and legislative as well as regulatory and self-regulation bodies took part in the conference and discussed challenges facing the Georgian media, especially in the context of the parliamentary elections in 2020 were discussed.
