Medical Support on a Mission – EUTM MOZ Medical Team dual role

Nothing can be done without health! This is a premise that should guide everyone, whether in a civilian or military context and the European Union Training Mission Mozambique (EUTM MOZ) Medical Team lives by it.

EUTM MOZ medical team is comprised by doctors, nurses, paramedics and medic drivers, that ensure quality primary health care, preventive medicine, support in situations of health risk and maintain the operationality of EUTM MOZ elements in Maputo and Chimoio Role 1 facilities. Role 2F in Chimoio, comprised by doctors and nurses, is always ready to provide damage control resuscitation and surgical treatment up to damage control surgery in case of serious injury. Additionally, a Force Health Protection Officer ensures the safety and hygiene conditions at work of all elements. The  pharmacist guarantees the supply chain and availability of pharmaceuticals and essential materials for the care of all elements that collaborate with EUTM MOZ.

For the EUTM MOZ Medical Team, the day-to-day healthiness of an operative is the guarantee seal for a ready and capable troop.

And because missions can be conducted in places where the lack of medical resources is a problem, and the physical demands to which the military are exposed can be higher, healthcare becomes a key point.

The EUTM MOZ Medical Team has a dual role in the mission. It is an operational asset, working daily on behalf of the deployed force, through preventive efforts, with lectures to the staff and medical advice to the Mission Force Commander (MFCdr), and also through assistance activity 24h/7, which ensures the maximum readiness and robustness of our military in the mission.

And it doesn't stop at office work. The Medical Team also takes an active part in EUTM MOZ training activities.

Together with the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM) military, it works with the aim of providing quality Combat First-Aid training that will make a difference for those who will face war and multi-victim scenarios.

The sharing of experiences between military and civilian personnel, both Mozambican and European, enriches the training given to the Quick Reaction Forces (QRF’s), and makes the trainees a more proficient and educated troop in the control of acute combat health situations, saving precious lives.

Being a member of the Medical Team in EUTM MOZ means being able to contribute in a multifaceted way to the success of the mission as a whole, as well as to the individual success of those who are also in the theatre of operations and know that they can count on a team that will always be there to help and with whom they can work, side by side, also as trainers.
