Services in Mozambique recognised by the EUMAM MOZ

Maputo, Mozambique – This morning the European Union Military Assistance in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) officially recognised the service of two military in the african country.  

In a ceremony presided over by the EUMAM MOZ Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Luís Barroso, the european detachment bid farewell to Major Enrique Figueiras, from the Spanish Army, after six months on the mission. During these period the spanish military occupied the position of J4 Chief, which he executed with very professionalism, responsibility and example.

In the ceremony, Commodore Rui Leite da Cunha, current Coordinator of Defence Cooperation between Portugal and Mozambique, was also awarded the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Medal. The European Union CSDP Medal is awarded to military or civilian personnel who, in the context of a mission conducted under the CSDP, demonstrate exceptional courage or perform an extraordinary and meritorious service with a positive and significant impact on the success of the mission.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026 and focuses on the operational training cycle and maintenance while also carrying out specialised training to enable the FADM to be self-sufficient in the fight against insurgency.
