EUMAM MOZ takes part in Mozambican Women's Day celebrations

Maputo, Mozambique - Today, 7th of April, the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in the celebrations of Mozambican Women's Day at Josina Machel High School. 

The event was attended by the District Director of Education, Mr. Jorge Manhiça, EUMAM MOZ Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Luís Barroso and Colonel Paulina, Head of the Gender Section of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces, among other EUMAM MOZ and FADM military personnel.

During the event, guests watched dance and poetry performances and visited an exhibition of schoolwork related to robotics, between others, all of them made by the school's students. 

Josina Machel led the Women´s Detachment - a unit dedicated to military training and political education. She also promoted the creation of the Niassa and Nangade Children's Centres in Cabo Delgado, where members of the Women's Detachment took care of orphaned children.

Josina is considered a model of inspiration for the women's movement, and the date of her death has been recognised as Mozambican Women´s Day.

Gender equality is a fundamental value in EUMAM MOZ. On the European Union policy framework and on the international human rights obligations, achieving gender equality and integrating a gender perspective are key objectives.
