On 28 May, the Mission held its first Gender and Human Rights Focal Point Network retreat in Yeghegnadzor. The network is essential for effective gender and human rights mainstreaming at EUMA. The Network, comprised of twelve staff members, including from all six Forward Operating Bases as well as Headquarters, provides support and guidance in the Mission’s internal and external gender and human rights mainstreaming efforts. The Democracy Development Foundation and the gender and human rights colleagues from EUMM Georgia were also present to share their expertise and best practices with EUMA’s Focal Points.

Gender and Human Rights Focal Points work part time on gender and human rights issues and can hold a variety of roles in the Mission, for example as Monitors, Team Leaders, Reporting Officers and Information Management Officers. They are appointed on a voluntary basis, based on their motivation and interest in supporting the Mission’s efforts in advancing human rights and gender equality. The Network meets once a month.

EUMA

Focal Points provide guidance to staff members on gender and human rights mainstreaming in program planning, patrolling, monitoring, reporting, data collection and analysis. Focal Points also actively support collaboration with civil society, as well as organize and coordinate specific outreach activities, for example campaigns relating to the Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence and International Women’s Day.
