EUCAP Somalia Hosts Special Presidential Envoy for the Prevention of Maritime Crimes

EUCAP Somalia was honoured to host the inaugural visit of the newly appointed Special Presidential Envoy for the Prevention of Maritime Crimes, Senator Mohamed Abdi Osman (Manjino), at its headquarters in Mogadishu.

The visit brought together senior officials from EUCAP Somalia and the Office of the Special Envoy to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in strengthening Somalia’s maritime governance and the rule of law. Senator Osman, a member of the Somali Senate, was recently appointed to this strategic role by the Presidency to improve inter-agency coordination in the fight against maritime crimes.

The engagement commenced with a warm welcome by the EUCAP Somalia Head of Mission, Mr. Kęstutis Lančinskas, followed by overseeing the institutional mandates respectively. Discussions centred on legislative reform, Somalia’s potential accession to key international maritime conventions, and the importance of establishing cohesive institutional frameworks.

The Senator also toured EUCAP Somalia training facilities, where they observed ongoing training sessions with Darwish Officers and Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations teams.

EUCAP Somalia remains committed to supporting Somalia in strengthening its maritime security capabilities. The alignment of mandates, strategic priorities, and institutional counterparts provides a strong foundation for deepening cooperation moving forward.
