EUAM Iraq supports the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency to increase the participation of women

The promotion of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, gender mainstreaming and human rights of women are central to the successful implementation of EUAM Iraq’s mandate. Since 2018 the Mission has been working closely with the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency (FIIA) to increase women’s participation and improve operational effectiveness.
With the support of the Mission, FIIA has established a Mixed Gender Intelligence Analysis Unit composed of 10 analysts, both women and men. The unit encourages women and men to work side by side on equal terms. EUAM Iraq has organised several training sessions in the fields of intelligence analysis methods, reporting and human rights. The diverse team of FIIA encourages individuals to process information more carefully, apply greater scrutiny and learn from each other. Women’s participation promotes more accurate group thinking that leads to better results in security analysis and more responsive institution.
EUAM Iraq hopes that the success of the team is setting an example for others. This initiative could positively lead to similar initiatives in the future both in FIIA and the Ministry of Interior.
