EUAM Iraq Deputy Head of Mission Ms. Anne Meskanen met yesterday with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG), Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert and Deputy SRSG for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir to discuss latest political developments in Iraq and the region as well as the Security Sector Reform (SSR) Programme.

The both parties shared views on how the international community could best engage on SSR at the strategic and political level. The SRSG also explained the efforts of the UNAMI regarding the integration of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the SSR Programme.

Other discussion points included the present state of SSR in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the possible monitoring role of the international community in the upcoming elections and ways of conducting the monitoring assistance.
