The mission has 28 long-term observers who are based in all regions and covering all districts of Malawi. The observers work in pairs, with 14 teams travelling to their areas of responsibility today.

After arriving in their areas across the country, the observers start to hold meetings with local stakeholders whose work is related to the elections. The EU observers are bound by a Code of Conduct which emphasises impartiality, confidentiality, integrity and cultural awareness.

The EU’s Election Observation Mission was invited to observe Malawi’s 2025 general elections by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Malawi Electoral Commission.
