The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Kosovo released today its Final Report on the 6 October 2019 early legislative elections. The Chief Observer Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, Member of the European Parliament, returned to Kosovo to present the Final Report to the Kosovo authorities, the Central Election Commission (CEC), political parties, civil society and the media.

The 6 October elections were the fourth legislative elections since Kosovo’s declaration of independence
in 2008. All of them were held early. The campaign was vibrant and competitive, allowing
contestants to campaign freely in most of Kosovo.

PRISTINA, 20 September 2019 - Following an invitation from the President of Kosovo, the EU has deployed an election observation mission (EOM) to Kosovo to conduct an impartial and independent observation of the 6 October early legislative elections. The mission will assess the extent to which the election complies with Kosovo’s laws, as well as with international standards for elections.

In response to an invitation by President Hashim Thaçi, the European Union has deployed an EU Election Observation Mission to Kosovo to observe the early parliamentary elections, scheduled for 6 October 2019. The European Union has a long history of accompanying electoral processes in Kosovo and has deployed EOMs on four previous occasions, the last two in 2017, which reflects the EU's long-term commitment and partnership with Kosovo.

Each EU missions works in the framework of a comprehensive approach. The mission works in agreement and coordination with the EU Delegations in the same area and in the framework of EU regional policies.

Election observation is a vital EU activity aiming to promote democracy, human rights and the rule
of law worldwide.
