In response to an invitation by the Kenyan Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the European Union has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to observe the forthcoming general elections.

Chief Observer Marietje Schaake presented the Preliminary Statement of the EU EOM Kenya 2017 in Nairobi, two days after the country's general elections.
The 30 long-term observers of the EU EOM Kenya 2017 deployed to 13 locations around the country today (27 June) to begin the mission’s long-term observation of the general elections, scheduled for 8 August. They will be operating in 15 teams of two to observe all aspects of the electoral process
