Election observation is a vital EU activity aiming to promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law worldwide.
Election contributes to strengthening democratic institutions, building public confidence in electoral processes, helping to deter possible fraud, intimidation and violence through the presence of observers in the inviting host country. It also reinforces other key EU foreign policy objectives, in particular peace-building.
The EU Delegations play a key role in presenting, explaining and implementing EU’s foreign policies in their host countries. They also analyse and report on the policies and developments there and conduct negotiations in accordance with their respective mandates.
