The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (CEUMC), General Claudio Graziano, paid an official visit to Ukraine, from 20-22 June 2019, and had important meetings with political and military representatives.
At his arrival in Kiev, the Chairman was welcomed by the Chief of the General Staff Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ruslan Khomchak, and the two high rank officers had a frank and fruitful discussion on matters of common interest in the security and defence field.
During his permanence in Ukraine, General Graziano also met with the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Yehor Bozhok, with the First Deputy Minister of Defence, H.E. Ivan Rusnak and with the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Head of the EU Delegation, Mr. Hugues Mingarelli. During the talks, possibilities to increase cooperation in the field of Common and Security Defence Policy were discussed.
In Kramatorsk, Donbas, General Graziano met with the Commander of the Joint Forces Operation, Olexander Sirsky, for an update and open exchange of views on the current situation in the area.
The Chairman of the EU Military Committee reaffirmed with all the Authorities the EU support to Ukraine’s full sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also stated that the EU will closely follow Ukrainian efforts to reform the security sector.
