The European Union deployed an Election Follow-up Mission (EFM) to El Salvador in December 2019. The Mission was led by Mr. Carlos Iturgaiz, Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Missions (EU EOM) to the 2018 legislative and municipal elections, and 2019 presidential elections in El Salvador.

Following the invitation by the Salvadorean authorities, the European Union has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to El Salvador to observe the legislative and municipal elections, due to take place on 3 February with a possible second round on 10 March.
