Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea?

We offer:

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political et Communication Section Section of the EU Delegation to Cameroon, starting in October  2023.

Main tasks:

  • Assist the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section in his activities;
  • Contribute to specific research on political, economic, private sector, trade, and security developments;
  • Attend and report from external meetings and conferences;
  • Contribute to prepare press releases, social media content and daily press review;
  • Assist with the organization of EU events;
  • Monitor of issues related to Cameroon's internal policy and development (justice, human rights, governance and economy) and regional policy;
  • Carry out research contributing to the political analysis of the EU Delegation.

 

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Due to the very evolutive context of the COVID-19 breakthrough, applicants currently residing in Cameroon will only be considered.
  • Hold or attending a Master’s or post-Master’s programme in International Relations, International Law, Political Science or assimilated.
  • Be fluent in French and English.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Confirmed interest in European studies:
  • Understand the challenges of European foreign policy on the African continent and particularly in Cameroon or Equatorial Guinea, at a political, security, diplomatic and economic level.
  • Learn above the EU diplomatic work (Political affairs, trade) and promotion of its policies in Cameroon.
  • Improve public relations and official communication skills.
  • Improve political and trade reporting skills.
  • Understand the challenges of Cameroon's development, in its socio-economic, political, security and legal aspects.
  • Learn about the overall functioning of an institution like the EEAS.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the context of the COVID-19 in the host country as well as in the country of origin where applicable.
