EU Military Committee: General Brieger visits Sarajevo

The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (CEUMC), General Robert Brieger, attended the latest EU Political Security Committee (PSC) working visit to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on 8 July.

The visit provided again an invaluable opportunity for in-theatre exchange of insights. Western Balkans and the stability and prosperity of the region has utmost importance and relevance for the European Union. The EUFOR Operation ALTHEA has an essential role in shaping the security environment and is currently the only EU military operation conducted under the Berlin Plus agreement in cooperation with NATO.

During the visit, General Brieger met the Members of the Presidency of BiH and Borjana Krišto, the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers. General Brieger also met Com EUFOR Major General László Stitz and Com NATO HQ Brigadier General Matthew A. Valas at Camp Butmir. Together with flag officers, they had insightful conversations about the recent developments in the security situation.

The EU delegation then witnessed a static and dynamic display of military equipment and capabilities fielded by EUFOR Althea multinational battalion, providing an excellent “first-hand” understanding of operational realities.
