The EU Delegation to the Republic of Djibouti is responsible for national cooperation with the government of Djibouti as well as cooperation in the Horn of Africa region with IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority for Development). The European Economic Development Funds (EDF) as well as the EU budget finance this cooperation.

Projects with the EU

The EU has been very active in the area of water, urban sanitation, energy, resilience and food security. Access to drinking water for the population remains a priority, as does wastewater treatment, considered one of the main environmental challenges for the country and its capital, which is home to 70% of the population. Finally, the availability of sufficient quantities of multiple accessible forms of energy is an essential factor for economic growth and the fight against poverty.

At the regional level, the European Union remains very active in the promotion of peace and security, the management of natural resources, economic integration as well as support to IGAD as a regional organization. In addition, several initiatives and projects are underway in the field of maritime security and the fight against piracy.
