The EU has close links with the countries of the Western Balkans. It aims to secure stable, prosperous and well-functioning democratic societies on a steady path towards EU integration.
The Stabilisation and Association Council welcomed Serbia's constructive role in the region and its strong commitment to make progress on the EU integration path. The reforms in the rule of law sector were highlighted as a key element in the negotiation process.
28 projects have been successfully implemented by municipalities, centres for social work and NGOs in 76 towns and municipalities, bringing direct benefits to more than 10,000 people across Serbia.

An independent and free media are a basis of democracy. An attack on journalists is an attack on democracy. Any impunity for these crimes is a blow to democracy.
