Jajce, a city in northwest BiH, known as a home to 30 national monuments will host the central event to mark this year’s Europe Day. Following Jajce’s rich cultural and historical heritage trail (Jajce fortress, catacombs and underground church, Pliva lakes and water mills, temple of the God Mithras, Esma Sultana Mosque, church of Saint John the Baptist, the tomb of the last Bosnian king, Ethno Museum with mineral collection, Museum of AVNOJ where the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was established) is one of many activities taking place there on Monday 7 May.
On an official visit to the country, Federica Mogherini commended the constructive and reliable role Montenegro is playing in the Western Balkans region. Highlighting the main findings of the Commission 2018 Report on Montenegro, Mogherini welcomed the encouraging progress achieved while looking forward to progress in areas such as rule of law and media freedom.
Following the Commission recommendation for the Council to open accession negotiations with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in Skopje recognised this as an achievement for all the institutions in the country, the civil society and the citizens. She invited both government and opposition to ‘join forces for the coming steps to be taken’.
