In more recent times, the EU and PNG struck one of the most successful trading deals in the Pacific, when PNG was granted duty and quota free access export into the EU market of 500 million consumers; an agreement that has already created thousands of jobs in PNG, with the expectation of more to come as other sectors than fisheries will reap the benefits of the EU-PNG trade accord.
EU Ambassador Ioannis Giogkarakis-Argyropoulos said:
"On the occasion of celebrating 40 years of EU-PNG partnership in 2017 we concluded that what PNG and the EU have achieved together over this period has been truly remarkable, especially considering the distance that separates us physically. We felt that a film would be perhaps the best way to tell this fascinating story; a story of how good cooperation keeps pushing the limits of what can be achieved. I wish that this film will inspire us all on further joint action for the benefit of all".
Director Marco Venditti said:
“It has been a pleasure as a European to direct this documentary and to look at some of the initiatives taken by the European Union in Papua New Guinea. Not only in the past, but also in present and future projects that aim to make a difference for the next generation of Papua New Guineans."
Access to the premiere screening will be by invitation only. However, future screenings will be open to the general public and will be broadcast by EMTV.
