Today, more than ever, the EU is increasing engagement to boost multilateralism and international cooperation. That is the message from the European Union's Foreign Ministers today as they adopted their priorities for the United Nations and the 73rd UN General Assembly (UNGA). Together the EU and the UN will continue to engage as a positive force for change, bringing unique added-value to European citizens.
25 November marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, one of the most devastating human rights violations against women and girls around the world. Empowerment of women and girls requires vigorous efforts to bring significant changes in their lives. To this end the European Union and the United Nations have embarked on the Spotlight Initiative, a ray of light in this ongoing fight. On the International Day, the EU institutions are lit up in orange as part of the UNiTE campaign, to symbolize a brighter future without violence.
The State of the Union 2017: Catching the wind in our sails
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker delivered today his 2017 State of the Union Address before the Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. He presented his priorities for the year ahead and outlined his vision for how the European Union could evolve by 2025.
Today is a historical day for Eritrea. Asmara is officially a UNESCO World Heritage site. The inscription took place today 08 July 2017 during the 41st World Heritage Committee Session in Poland.
