EU commits to support Skills Development and Job Creation

The Government of Malawi and the EU have signed a 55 million Euro financing agreement to implement the Zantchito (Skills for Jobs) Programme. Following up on the Africa-Europe Alliance, the programme will invest in people by capitalising on education and skills development, and strengthening the business environment and investment climate.

The programme will improve the employability and self-employment opportunities for young TEVET graduates and entrepreneurs, with special attention to women entrepreneurs, to create an ecosystem of job creators, as opposed to job seekers.

The EU supports this initiative, that brings together the Ministries of Labour and Industry aims at improving workforce qualifications and access of TEVET graduates to employment. The programme endeavours to enhance the delivery of business support services to entrepreneurs, to facilitate their access to affordable finance, improving the business-operating environment and the perception of entrepreneurship. 

In sum, the programme focuses on two essential tools for job creation: skills development and entrepreneurship.
