Renewable energy development and energy efficiency improvement in the Member States of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

EU Contribution: €15,000,000

Period of implementation: 2014-2019

Objective: To contribute to the sustainable development of the Indian Ocean Commission Member States by improving their access to modern, reliable, efficient, renewable or sustainable safe energy at competitive prices.

One of the core components focuses on the design, construction and management of decentralised power generation systems from renewable sources including solar energy, hydroelectricity and biomass.


- 3 projects have been successfully completed: 2 in Madagascar and 1 in Rodrigues.

- 12 other projects are being implemented: 7 in Madagascar, 3 in Comoros and 2 in Rodrigues.

Location: Member States of the IOC (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles).

La Réunion (France) participates in the programme with its own funds.
