As a first result of this extension, EUCAP Sahel Niger provided 25-27 June training to the Gendarmerie Nationale in Burkina Faso:

European experts coached their colleagues from Burkina Faso during three days on preserving crime scenes, collecting evidence, interviewing and arresting suspects and documenting any information useful for a court case. Special attention was paid to compliance with human rights and gender during security activities.

This first of trainings was followed by a second training event, this time in Chad and provided by the sister Mission EUCAP Sahel Mali:

From 8 to 12 of July, EUCAP Mali delivered a pre-deployment training to provosts of the Brigade Prévôtale of the Gendarmerie of Chad prior to their deployment as the Police Component of the Chadian Battalion of the Joint Force G5 Sahel.

All these and further training requests by the G5 countries are coordinated and organized by the Regional Advisory and Coordination Cell (RACC) for CSDP, located in Mauritania.

With two civilian and one military crisis management mission on the ground, coordinated by the Regional Advisory and Coordination Cell, the EU is a key security partner for the G5 Sahel and its member countries – fostering stability in the region and providing security at home.
