In the context of the aggravation of Covid-19 crisis in PNG, following a request from the national authorities, the “EU Civil Protection Mechanism” has been activated and France was the first Member State to immediately respond.
France is donating PPEs, antigen tests, oxygen generators and concentrators, oxygen masks, pulse oximeters, ventilation devices and military tents for setting up mobile testing and treatment centres. A first delivery of 60 tents has been made already on Tuesday (30/03) by a French military aircraft that flew six hours from Noumea (New Caledonia). The transport has been welcomed by the French Ambassador H.E. Guillaume Lemoine and the EU Delegation representatives. Other EU member states might join the response in PNG as well, despite the severe Covid-19 crisis they are facing themselves.
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been set up in 2001 to strengthen cooperation between the EU Member States in the field of civil protection. Any country in the world can call on the EU Civil Protection Mechanism for help.
