Delivering essential medications to people in need: the story of Kawsar Abdel Hadi
Kawsar is a 50-year-old woman and one of the many people benefiting from the chronic medications provided by the European Union through the World Health Organization to primary healthcare centres and dispensaries in Lebanon.
Her first visit to the primary healthcare centre in Chiyyah on the outskirts of Beirut was a few of years ago when she felt unwell with symptoms that left her mouth constantly dry. A resident of Beirut, Kawsar remembers her first visit, “I didn’t know what was wrong with me so I came here [PHC] to do some medical check-ups.” The test results showed that Kawsar suffered from diabetes and needed to start taking medications regularly to keep her ailment well controlled.
“Every month I come here to take the five medicines. They always have them ready since I am a regular patient,” said Kawsar who was at the centre for a visit to pick up her medication.
