Journalists are invited to apply for the 2017 European Union-QANTAS Journalist Award.

Now in its 25th year the award is open to an Australian journalist with more than three years working experience in print or electronic media. They will need to satisfy the selection panel that he or she would benefit from a working visit to the European Union institutions and two to three Member States. While the subject of the project proposal is open to the journalist's particular interests, it must be based on European themes relevant to an Australian audience.

Journalists are requested to have their employer's written support and recommendation as well as confirmation they will be free to take up the program. Previous applicants can apply.

Selection will be based primarily on the journalist's proposal outlining a European – Australian issue or issues to be pursued during the visit. Originality and innovation in the development of themes will be valued highly, as will their appropriateness for the target audience in Australia. The selection panel will also take into account three examples of the applicant's work published or broadcast in the previous 12 months.

The EU will assist the journalist in formulating a suitable program of 10 working days that must be undertaken within one year of receiving the award. The award also provides for reasonable accommodation costs and a living allowance. Business class travel to and from Europe is courtesy of Qantas Airways and arranged by Just Travel of Canberra and Qantas Airways.

To apply please send three copies of the application (if posted), a CV and all materials, including digital or audio material are essential to:
