The EU and NATO have agreed 34 new actions as part of the ongoing implementation of the 2016 Joint Declaration. These deepen cooperation and also expand cooperation to new issues, including by addressing military mobility, information sharing in the fight against terrorism, and promoting women’s role in peace and security.
The EU, through its Rule of Law Mission, EULEX has been instrumental in ensuring justice for families in Kosovo through the identification of missing persons. Fatime Krasniqi’s husband Sefer was identified in April 2017 as a result of EULEX efforts. Fatime appealed for other families of the missing to provide DNA samples to EULEX in order to facilitate the process of identification so that the remains of their loved ones can be returned to them. Since 2008, EULEX has conducted 576 field operations in order to identify and re-associate human remains. From these, it has successfully identified 423 individuals.
The 5th African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Summit, will take place in Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire, on 29-30 November 2017 and has "Investing in Youth for a Sustainable Future" as its overarching theme. At this first summit with all AU members, two political partners will meet to cover all aspects of their partnership. Ahead of the summit, 1500 business leaders and decision-makers are gathering on 27 November for the 6th EU-Africa business forum.
With the notification by 23 EU member states of their desire to participate in "permanent structured cooperating" in the field of defence, the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) brought together policy makers and experts to discuss achievements and next steps in EU security and defence cooperation.
