COVID-19: EU, SADC, and German Embassy launch a call for proposals for innovative projects to increase the production of COVID-19-relevant medical and pharmaceutical products

The EU, SADC and the German Embassy in Gaborone launch a call for innovative projects for the manufacturing of COVID-19-relevant medical and pharmaceutical products. The deadline for applications is 24 August 2020.

 

The Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Delegation of the European Union in Botswana, and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany have launched a call for proposals for innovative projects for the manufactuiring of COVID-19-relevant medical and pharmaceutical products under the COVID-19-relevant Medical and Pharmaceutical Products” (CMPP) Project.  

The CMPP Project aims at increasing manufacturing capacities for COVID-19-relevant items in the region. This includes, but is not limited to, personal protective equipment, sanitisers and disinfectants, ventilators and related equipment, and pharmaceuticals with increased need in relation to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

The project is part of the COVID-19 response package developed in emergency by the EU and its Members States – #TeamEurope – to support national health systems.

The support is targeted at private and public sector companies and initiatives (e.g. University initiatives, national technology initiatives) in the SADC region. Financial grant will range from EUR 50,000 to EUR 100,000 for for-profit companies, and from EUR 100,000 to EUR 200,000 for non-profit making initiatives, through a joint contribution approach (maximum 75% of the total project costs).

The deadline for applications is 24 August 2020.

Background

The CMPP intervention is a component of the overall programme, “Support towards Industrialization and the Productive Sectors in the SADC region (SIPS).” The SIPS programme is co-funded by the EU and Germany  and is being co-implemented by the SADC secretariat and GIZ. The CMPP intervention is managed and implemented by GIZ and is part of the programme “Cooperation for the Enhancement of SADC Regional Economic Integration (CESARE)”.
