Call for Proposals: “Why I Volunteer?” Competition - Deadline: Tuesday 30 April 2019 (5 PM)

On the occasion of the Europe Week 2019, Europe House is honoured to launch a competition of the best volunteering experience, open to all individuals including but not limited to activists, students or volunteers and non-governmental organisations or youth organisations in Albania.

We love to tell great volunteering stories! We hope you will consider sharing your story to inspire others to follow your example. 

We all know how important visibility is.  Why not get your volunteers to tell your story? Reach out to your supporters and invite them to enter the #WhyIVolunteer Contest.

This competition is designed to recognise these volunteers and the outstanding organisations they serve.

The deadline to make your submissions is 30 April 2019. 

Who can participate?

  1. The competition contest is open to all individuals and organisations involved in voluntarism in Albania.
  2. The competition is open to Albanian citizens only.
  3. Participants should be between 13 and 30 years old.

How it works

  1. The participants should send an essay of one page and a picture of their volunteering work, explaining why they volunteer.
  2. The essay and photo should be posted submitted to info@europehouse.al no later than 30/04/2019, 5 pm.
  3. The participants are also encouraged to post their picture and a small text on Facebook or Instagram (https://www.facebook.com/eu.delegation.albania or https://www.instagram.com/euinalbania) tagging the account of the EU Delegation to Albania and including the hashtag #WhyIVolunteer.

Selection of the winners:

  1. A jury will meet in the first week of May 2019 to choose the winners.
  2. The jury will be composed of representatives from the EU Delegation and Civil Society Organisations.
  3. Winners will be notified and announced publicly.
  4. The jury members and their close family members cannot apply to the competition.

Guidelines to choose the Winner:

  1. Demonstrated benefit to the local community.
  2. Evidence of initiative and innovation.
  3. Sustainability of the volunteering work.
  4. Length of service and number of hours volunteered, where applicable.
  5. Any obstacles which the applicant may have had to overcome to achieve the outcomes of their work.

Copyright of the Entrants Pictures and Stories:

  1. The photographer will sign a paper to grant the EU the copyright of their pictures and stories.
  2. The EU Delegation will print the entrants' pictures and stories to show in an exhibition.
  3. The EU Delegation will show the winning pictures and stories on different media outlets.
  4. The EU Delegation will display the pictures and stories during the celebrations of the Europe Week 2019.
  5. For awarded pictures and stories, copyright holders grant the EU Delegation unlimited non-exclusive use of high-resolution pictures for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the contest, the exhibition, the public archive, and all promotional and educational activities without any remuneration being due.
  6. The conditions set out in the Entry Rules are binding, and the EU Delegation reserves the right to refuse or exclude any entry if it considers that it doesn’t abide to the terms and conditions.

The Prize(s)

  1. Three winners will be selected. 1st prize wins a sponsored visibility activity linked to the volunteering work in cooperation with Europe House of up to 3,000 Euros. 2nd prize wins a sponsored visibility activity in cooperation with Europe House up to 2,000 Euros. 3rd prize wins a sponsored visibility activity in cooperation with Europe House up to 1,000 Euros.
  2. Each winner will be notified by phone and email. All the participants must provide correct names, telephone numbers and electronic emails.
  3. If a winner cannot be notified within seven (7) days, or does not respond, the prize will be awarded to the participants ranked after in the selection of the jury. 
  4. There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for the prize.
  5. Only one prize can be awarded per household.
  6. The prizes will be awarded by the EU Ambassador and other authorities during the closing event of Europe Week 2019 at EU Village on Friday 10 May 2019.
