Federica Mogherini today met in Berlin with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US Secretary of State John Kerry and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in a concerted effort to ease the tensions in the Middle East. The High Representative/Vice President also plans to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday in Brussels. She will travel to Vienna tomorrow for a Quartet Principals’ meeting on the Middle East Peace Process and some bilateral meetings.

It has been an intense and productive week for High Representative Mogherini and other EU leaders in New York. Many issues have been tackled and discussed during the 70th UN General Assembly with some important results. During the week the High Representative had some 57 meetings, including Summits, bilateral with Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers, conferences and other High Level Events.

On 4 September 2015, EU Ministers of Foreign and European Affairs are addressing the Middle East peace process, the EU's Eastern Partnership and the Union's relations with Russia.

On 5 September, the Ministers are joined by representatives of the candidate countries for EU accession to discuss migration and the challenges that the EU and the candidate countries must face in this area. Afterwards, the Ministers are discussing EU-Iranian relations following the agreement on Iran's nuclear programme.

On Monday 18 May the EU took the decision to create a naval force to disrupt human smugglers in the Mediterranean which will form part of a wider approach to saving lives at sea. The joint meeting of Foreign and Defence Ministers also discussed common security and defence policy and set out ways to make it stronger and more effective in the face of security challenges to Europe such as the crises in Syria and Ukraine.

Lors de leur réunion conjointe, les ministres des affaires étrangères et de la défense ont également discuté des moyens de rendre la politique de sécurité et de défense commune plus robuste et plus efficace pour relever les défis auxquels l’Europe est confrontée dans le domaine de la sécurité, tels que les crises en Syrie et en Ukraine.

This week marked 100 days in office for Federica Mogherini. It also saw her chairing a Foreign Affairs Council that focused on counter-terrorism and the unfolding situation in Ukraine. This was also a key issue at the European Council and during the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg. The High Representative also facilitated a dialogue meeting between the Prime Ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, which finalised the agreement on justice and judiciary in ‪‎Kosovo. She also met Palestinian President Mahmoud ‪Abbas and chaired the seventh EU-Lebanon Association Council.

The visit of President Mahmoud Abbas was an opportunity for President Jean-Claude Juncker and myself to re-state EU's support for a two-state solution with an independent, democratic, viable State of Palestine living side-by-side with Israel and its other neighbours in peace and security.
