Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Sri Lanka and to the Maldives? - Deadline for applications is 31 October 2018, 17.00 hrs (Sri Lankan time)

What do we offer?

A six-month traineeship within the Political, Trade and Communication Section of the EU Delegation to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, starting from 1st December 2018 or17th December 2018. The Section manages the political and trade cooperation of the EU Delegation with Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Main tasks:

  • Assist the Section in supporting overall EU-Sri Lanka trade and investment relations
  • Support monitoring and follow-up to the GSP+ process with Sri Lanka
  • Assist in analysis of economic and trade policies
  • Take notes and draft reports, briefing notes or background analyses on specific issues, etc;
  • Contribute to the preparation of meetings
  • The list of tasks can be adjusted in view of the qualifications and interest of the intern;

Qualifications:

  • Masters's degree (or higher) in a relevant field (law, political science, economics, geography, media, business, international relations or international development or similar)
  • Good knowledge of economic and trade policies; knowledge of the functioning and policies of the European Union; basic knowledge of and interest in the work of the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives;
  • Excellent analytical, communication and drafting skills in English
  • Excellent computer literacy and creative spirit
  • Willingness and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of local languages and context would be an asset

Before applying you are requested to examine the GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant of EUR 400 (at the current exchange rate approximately 77000 SLR) to cover living expenses. However costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
