Across the globe, cultural, traditional or religious values continue to be used to justify persecution, discrimination, bullying and ill-treatment against LGBTI persons. Even in countries with legal protection, stigmatisation due to homophobia, transphobia and biphobia remains high. It is our duty to combat this, notably through our policies, concrete actions and communication, which should be inclusive, respectful and leaving no one behind.
The candidacy of Ms Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle for the post of Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, was submitted in Rome on Monday 17 December 2018. The next Director General will be elected by the 194 Member States of the Organisation during its 41st Conference in June 2019. Ms Geslain-Lanéelle from France was identified as the EU candidate by the Council of the European Union on 15 October 2018.
In 2017 every 2 seconds one person was forced to flee their home due to war, persecution or violence. With millions of people in need on a record high the European Union continues its work with partners around the world to address the humanitarian challenges and to provide long-term support. Last year, €2 billion of the EU's humanitarian budget was allocated to help displaced people and host communities in 49 countries. And EU Member States have granted protection to more than 538 000 people.

Depuis 2003, l’UE et des partenaires internationaux représentant 99 % du commerce mondial de diamants ont uni leurs forces pour que la production et le commerce de diamants bruts contribuent à la paix et à un développement économique et humain durables. Dans le cadre de la présidence qu’elle assume cette année et d'une série d’actions concrètes, l’UE s’engage à empêcher le commerce des diamants de la guerre et à améliorer les moyens de subsistance des communautés minières.
