Compulsory traineeship for students at the EU Delegation to Brazil

 Are you a university student interested in international relations?  Is a working experience part of your course?  Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Brazil ?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months for students undertaking a compulsory traineeship as a part of their studies, within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Brazil , starting in end-April  2020.
Under the supervision and mentoring of an Administrator, this compulsory traineeship will provide a solid and meaningful learning content, notably by the prior identification of the specific skills to be acquired in relation with the studies of the candidates.

Traineeship in the Cooperation Section (COOP):

The Cooperation Section within the Delegation is in charge of analysis and development of Cooperation sector strategies, and of the design and implementation of cooperation actions in Brazil.
The Cooperation Section also supports – and to some extent conducts – policy dialogues. Furthermore, the Cooperation Section has a regional mandate, overseeing the design and implementation of cooperation actions in Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Main tasks:

  • Contribute to the implementation of effective communication activities, e.g. by disseminating results and good practices of EU funded projects.
  • Contribute to the organization of and participate in events and activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents such as briefings and press releases.
  • Do research and contribute to notes on specific topics of interest.
  • Cooperate with the Delegation's other sections in the area of Press and Communication.
  • Perform other tasks related to EU cooperation in Brazil, as requested by the Head of Section.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Knowledge of English and Portuguese would be an asset.
  • An economics or business background would be an asset.

Traineeship in the Foreign Policy Instrument Section (FPI):

The FPI Regional Team in Brasilia is responsible for the coordination and management of actions under the Partnership Instrument (PI) and the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) in the American Continent. The Regional Team Americas is composed of 11 very motivated staff members. Team spirit, a strong sense of initiative and responsibility is a common feature of all team members.

Main tasks:

  • Participation in events and meetings with partners and authorities.
  • Preparation of minutes.
  • Organization and creation of spreadsheets and documents for the files of the team.
  • Assistance in the preparation of project fiches.
  • Liaison with EU's partners to assist the organization of events.
  • Translations of documents.
  • Coordination with the other Delegations in the region
  • Drafting of background documents

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Interest in the European Union and its values
  • Ability to understand and summarize documents and projects
  • Team spirit
  • Efficiency and adaptability
  • Language skills (English and Spanish)

Traineeship in the Science, Technology and Innovation Section (STI):

Scientific cooperation is one of the pillars of the strategic partnership between Brazil and the. European Union, being covered by the governmental BR-EU Cooperation Agreements on Scientific and Technology in force since 2007 and on Fusion Energy Research in force since 2013. The main purpose of those agreements is to encourage, develop and facilitate cooperative activities in areas of common interest.  The STI Section has strategic partnerships with Brazilian federal and state entities, including the Ministry of International Relations (MRE), the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC), funding agencies as the National Council for S&T Development (CNPq), the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects (FINEP) and the National Council of Research Supporting Foundations (CONFAP) encompassing its States' Research Supporting Foundations (FAPs). The section has also a regional dimension acting in various LAC countries.

Main tasks:

  • Assist in planning and coordinating events or meetings, also giving general support and helping the preparation of slide presentations.
  • Assist in the creation of support materials, such as charts, graphs, or other visuals.
  • Provide regular updates of STI news from media and newsletters and contribute to monthly reports.
  • Accompany as observer the section´s staff to meetings, give input and ideas and write minutes.
  • Give suggestions for the Delegation's website about the STI sector activities and relevant themes.
  • Write internal communications and support the translation of documents.
  • Perform studies or surveys; analyse and present results.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Very good level of Portuguese and English - spoken and written.
  • Scientific background would be an asset
  • Interest and some experience with research, science, technology and innovation is an asset.

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country)

All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the University.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
