The dialogue and mediation initiative commenced in 2018 with separate consultations with the farmers and herders to secure their consent for the mediation process.

This was followed by engagements to find out the grievances of the competing groups.

The farmers and herders were brought together to present their concerns, demands and commitments.

Both parties agreed to terms of resource exploitation that will foster peaceful existence and secured livelihoods for all.

These include agreements: to redraw  the grazing routes to avert encroachments; to prohibit grazing at night; prohibit grazing by underaged persons; to prohibit grazing on farmlands; ensure prompt payment of compensation for damaged crops and livestock stolen or killed.
